The story…

Oh aren’t they so glorious and heavy and grand!  Why isn’t the tiger the king of the jungle.  Looking deep into your eyes, Richly Parker wants you to respect his solitude.  Or else!

Ok, I have to ask, have you watched Netflix’s documentary Tiger King, with Joe Exotic, the owner of Oklahoma’s Exotic Animal Park which was a private zoo, and in its heyday known for encouraging cub-petting and also its tiger-breeding operation.  Many controversial things in that statement, I agree.  Now Mr Joe is serving 22 years in prison for plotting to have a critic murdered, killing five tigers and illegally selling tigers across state lines. It did keep us riveted during lockdown.

Well, the tiger that inspired this painting was not from this programme (then why on earth…. ha!  I don’t know, I just digress, you know me).  It is in fact from, tarrahhhh, did you know it? Did you?  Life of Pi, one of the most wonderful of novels.

This watercolour painting in its vibrant colours of orange and hot reds belies the trepidacious posture of this tiger, who is actually toying with you, lulling you into thinking he is ‘oh so benign’, when, wham, you could be in his jaws in a second!
